Autonomous Robot

“The Very Hungry Caterpillar” made its way around an arena, searching for and collecting cubes.

The arena for the competition was a large, flat checkerboard. There were retroflective cubes scattered around the arena that the robots had to be able to detect. Once the robot found a cube, it needed to move the cube onto its color. The robot with the most cubes on its color after three minutes was the winner.

Our robot used two rotating brushes to suck up cubes as it moved around the arena. The cubes shot up the ramp into the center of the robot, where they would sit as the robot continued to move. When it was time to drop the cubes, a rotating arm inside the robot would sweep them out the back.
